Thanksgiving in zero waste mode
Thanksgiving is one of the most important celebrations in Canada. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in order to celebrate the harvests and the gratitudes of the year. With family or friends, we gather around a good meal.
So how can we make this event zero waste and eco-responsible?
Meals are traditionally seasonal vegetables such as pumpkins, squash, potatoes, cranberries ... At several producers, we can do self-picking. I find this action so pleasant and satisfying. We are pleased to choose the desired vegetable. It is impeccably fresh. The satisfaction of having gone to pick it up in the field and then cook it has no value ;-).
For meat, visit your butcher, he will have great suggestions to offer you.
We often cook large quantities and there are leftovers. It's perfect ! They can be used for your weekly lunches or mixed with other recipes.
During the, we often have eyes bigger than our stomachs. Use vegetables that will not be cooked for your feast to decorate your table or hallway. Soups, purees, boiled can be prepared with in a second step.
Use your washable dishes. If you run out, ask your guests to bring their dishes. Your table will only be more beautiful.
Create memories. Name your gratitudes with your loved ones, play games, cook together. Make the most of this moment of sharing and gathering.
Personally, I am very grateful for having had the courage to start my own business and to share my passion with you. I also thank my family for being here and supporting me.
I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
